Audit Finds State Departments Are Hoarding Millions In Fee Revenue

A new report has found that seven state departments, including the Department of Personnel and Administration, Department of Public Health and Environment, and Department of State, had a total of $9.1 million in “excess uncommitted cash reserves.”

These “excess reserves” are important because it could affect potential taxpayer refunds under our Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, and is a sign that our state government is not using taxpayer funds efficiently.

When we talk about the need for our $30 billion state budget to be used more effectively before asking for tax increases or adding more fees, this is what we mean.
